It is great for everybody to get outdoors once in a while. But that is not so easy if you are living in a care home and you have dementia.
The Parks Trust in Milton Keynes and The Open University are working together to evaluate a new initiative - fortnightly walks in the beautiful local parks for care home residents with dementia, their families and carers.
This project is trying to understand what works to keep people with dementia engaging with the walks and outdoor environments. We know that sustained benefits come from regular engagement with activities but this is challenging at many levels for people living with dementia and their families and carers. The www.keepmewalking.info website will report regularly on progress.
